Daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend, lawyer, adjunct professor, NICU Family Support Specialist, Founder, Board Member, Trustee, CEO, mentor, entrepreneur, fundraiser, hiker; all hats I've worn (many that I still wear.) But creative non-fiction writer? Memoirist? Why do I feel like a fraud to claim the one hat I have always wanted to wear?
I challenged myself to write 500 word personal essays, one a day, -- every day for a year-- to see if that old saw of making writing a "habit" resonated--or if it even worked!
Inching out on the ledge, I offer my words. Laugh, cry, get angry, be inspired, feel heard. I hope that by showing you some of me, I help you find some of you.
When I turned 60, I took a class designed to help me figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up.
The answers surprised me:
I could be a philanthropist--never mind that bothersome detail that I didn't make any money.
I could be an event planner--wait a second, I'm a spouse, a parent and a dog owner. I plan events every nanosecond of my life.
Or, I could be a writer.
Now that seemed like an adventure worth pursuing.
